What does a JetMaster Refill Kit contain?
In general, each JetMaster Kit contains:

  • The (4) inks, black, yellow, cyan and magenta (or black only in case of kits exclusively dedicated to the black cartridges) – or more if you order a ‘photo’ kit designed to support a cartridge with more than 4 reservoirs

  • (4) Dispensers, or (1) in the case of a black cartridge) or more for photo cartridges
    Any additional small hardware required by the specific cartridge.

  • Instructions to recharge YOUR OWN existing cartridges..

  • Gloves

  • Container box for storage of kit. Any other accessories specific to the cartridge(s) supported by the kit.

  • Any JetMaster also implies and includes e-mail and telephone technical support for any question related to the Jet Printer and Cartridge in use.

Will I lose the warranty on the printer if I refill my cartridges?

There is no terror, Cassius, in your threats;
For I am armed so strong in honesty,
That they pass by me as the idle wind,
Which I respect not.
Julius Caesar

No, and the reason has to do with reality, law and common sense. All manuals of all printers we know of contain veiled threats, or state in words having an undertone of injunction, that you must only use original, new manufacturers’ cartridge. If not, they continue, bad things may happen and you ‘may’ invalidate your warranty. Reality shows that there is a flourishing worldwide cartridge re-manufacturing industry. An industry could not exist without customers. Antitrust laws prohibit a manufacturer from compelling customers to use only one source of supplies. In fairness to the manufacturer, if you use a poor or low quality inkjet ink you are likely to cause problems. Our inks are certified ink-jet emulsions in absolute compliance with the emulsion standards of the original ink supplied by the manufacturer.
Finally, common sense tells us that in principle and in practice a cartridge is a container of ink. The cartridge was filled up at the source just as you, with a JetMaster kit, refill the cartridge at destination.

Is refilling messy?
Ink would not be true to its calling if it did not leave a mark. We provide a pair of re-usable gloves with each kit. The steps to load and deliver ink to the cartridge are straight forward. The gloves are a precaution more than a necessity. Inks are non toxic and wash away reasonably quickly with water or alcohol. Ink bottles are sealed for secured shipping.

Is refilling difficult?
No, even if you harbor a deep seated mistrust of things mechanical. The perception of difficulty stems from not being able to see the inside of a cartridge. And in truth, inkjet technology is awesome. A device that flawlessly and quietly converts wonderful pictures into print and creates calligraphy under our own eyes partakes of the magic. We are led to surmise the presence of arcane and complex mechanisms hidden in the dark bowels of an inkjet cartridge. Fortunately for all of us, the cartridge, (or rather the ink dispensing section of a cartridge) is the simplest tassel in the puzzle. Even so, we include with each kit comprehensive and clear instructions and we are no farther away than one phone call or e-mail. As with everything “experience is with industry achieved, and perfected by the swift course of time”. Or, more plainly, after recharging 2 or 3 times you will get the knack of it and will consider refilling as an inevitable but tolerable necessity.

Is there a universal jet ink?
No and not of our choosing. Clearly, the key to proper cartridge refilling is the quality of the ink(s). Manufacturers have diversified the formulas to match the ink to the characteristics of the printhead and to the printhead mode of operation. Differences in inks have to do with viscosity, temperature response, electrical conductivity, color density and hue, dyes, pigments, emulsifiers etc. We ceased to provide one ink for all printers in 1994. As of September 2001 we have 160 different types of inks.

How many times can I recharge a cartridge?

But in faith, Kate, the older I wax, the better I shall appear;
my comfort is that old age, that ill layer-up of beauty,
can do no more spoil upon my face.
King Henry V

As a term of reference between 5 and 10 times. Cartridges can be classified in various ways. In one classification there are two types of cartridges, those that include their own printhead and those, as we said earlier, that are just tanks. In a manufacturers’ ideal world cartridges would self-destruct after one use. Short of this, printheads mounted on cartridges are designed to last as little as possible. However, in recent times their longevity has increased and we ourselves help by providing the means to clean them. Cleaning a printer mounted (as opposed to cartridge mounted) printhead is equally easy. In our in-house tests we have been able to recharge a cartridge (tank) over 25 times well exceeding the life of the printhead as specified by the manufacturer (manufacturers specify the life of a printhead in million of printed characters). That is, we have reached an interesting milestone - the life of the cartridge has exceeded the expected life of the printhead and with printing still as good as new.
